The skin is one of the most common sites of cancer that are likely to be discovered by pet owners. In cats, most skin masses are malignant.
This presentation will go through the history, physical examination, and diagnostic approach in cats that present with a skin mass.
The primary focus of this presentation will be on the cancer biology, prognosis, diagnostics, and treatment options for the four most common skin tumours in cats (basal cell tumour, fibrosarcoma, squamous cell carcinoma and mast cell tumour). Other less common skin tumours of clinical relevance (such as Bowenoid in situ carcinoma, papilloma, plasma cell tumour, and melanoma), will also be discussed. There will also be some ‘What is your diagnosis’ questions, on some skin tumours in cats.
Vets that will likely benefit most from this presentation are primary care and specialist veterinarians who wish to learn more about how to approach a cat with a skin mass, in everyday clinical practice.
